Putorana Plateau — amazing place of Siberia

Putorana Plateau (Putorana Mountains) is located on northwest of Central Siberian Plateau. The maximal height of Putorana Plateau is 1701 metres.

In the north the plateau borders with Taimyr Peninsula. Putorana Plateau was discovered and scientifically described by russian zoologist and explorer A. Middendorff.

Surface of Putorana Plateau is covered with basalt nappes also named as «siberian traprocks». The area contains some of copper-nickel deposits.

Fauna of Putorana Plateau is quite diverse. There is wild reindeer, lynxe, sable, cock of the wood, flying squirrel, gyrfalcon, bighorn sheep. In the area of plateau is located «Putorana national park» («zapovednik»).

Lake Chany — the largest lake in West Siberia

Lake Chany is located in Novosibirsk Region, West Siberia. Lake Chany is a closed lake and it is the largest lake in West Siberia. This lake appeared at the end of Ice Age, about 10-13 thousand years ago.

Length of lake Chany is 91 km and width of this lake is 88 km. Area of lake Chany is changeable, it changed from 1400 to 2000 square km. Average depth of lake is about 2 meters and maximal depth is 7 meters. Maximal observed temperature of lake Chany water is 28.3°C. On the lake Chany are located about 70 islands. Lake Chany is light salted. There is local navigation on the lake.

Lake Chany is a popular recreational area and popular place for summer and winter fishing for people from the nearest regions. There is also popular place for bird hunters. There are a camping sites on the lakeside.

Klyuchevskaya Sopka, volcano оn the Kamchatka Peninsula

Klyuchevskaya Sopka is an active volcano and the highest mountain in the east of Kamchatka Peninsula. This volcano is the highest active volcano of Eurasia, its height is 4822 meters (in 1993).

Volcano Klyuchevskaya Sopka is located at 60 kilometers from Bering Sea, near volcano Bezymianny. Klyuchevskaya Sopka is one of the most active volcanos in the world. Age of this volcano is about 6-7 thousands years.

The last big eruption of volcano was in 1994 and ever since vocano activity of Klyuchevskaya Sopka is practically ceased.

What is Siberia?

If we listen word “Siberia” we begin think about defined things. Generally we think about traditional stereotypes: nature, frost, out-of-the-way places and boundless space. But what is Siberia truly? First of all where is Siberia located exactly?

There is opinion that Siberia includes a whole Asiatic part of Russia. It means that Siberia is located between the Ural Mountains and the Pacific Ocean and between the Arctic Ocean and southern state borders of Russia (with Kazakhstan, Mongolia, China). The area of Siberia is about 10 million square kilometers and about 26 million men live there.

Siberia is divided into three big federal districts. It is Ural federal district, Siberian federal district and Far Eastern federal district.

Because of big length of Siberia climate there is very diverse and varied. In the north of Siberia climate is cold almost the whole year round and in the south of Siberia usually quite warm climate and summer temperature could be over 35 of degrees Celsius.
